Meet Sarah
Thanks for stopping by. It’s great to have you here.
I’m Sarah Holmes, the very proud owner of The World’s Easiest Recipes. I live in beautiful Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula with my partner, Mark. However, for much of my adult life I was a single mum to my three wonderful children, Joseph, Isabel and Sam – with the lovely Sophie now part of our family too.
I’ve always loved cooking and come from a family with a real passion for food. Growing up, my brothers and I had the best of both worlds: our mum was raised on a farm, so we learned the value of fresh ingredients and cooking from scratch, while our dad travelled overseas for business and introduced us to flavours from around the world. I still remember the elaborate Saturday-night meals inspired by his favourite Ken Hom cookbook!
As a single mum, however, it wasn’t always easy to balance the nourishing, delicious meals I wanted to give my children with the reality of limited time and money. Reinventing sausages and mince night after night was a constant challenge – although putting the leftovers in a thermos and heading to the beach on day three seemed to work!
And then, with my kids leaving home I faced the daunting reality of having none of my babies at home to cook for. The house became very quiet and very big (although it stayed clean which was a bonus!) and I felt myself slipping into the very bad habit of eggs on toast every second night! And while I love eggs on toast, I think we are worth so much more than minimal effort when it comes to looking after ourselves.
While looking for a change from my career as a teacher, I discovered the cookbooks created by The World’s Easiest Recipes founder, Linda Duncan. I couldn’t believe these little gems hadn’t been part of my life sooner. When I said, “Where have they been all my life?” I genuinely meant it!
Since taking ownership of the business, I’ve loved continuing what Linda began and sharing her wonderfully simple approach to cooking, with even more people. I’ve also added my own contribution to the collection with Volume 5 – a new selection of fuss-free, delicious recipes created for busy, everyday cooks.
What makes these cookbooks so special is their ability to turn a few basic pantry ingredients into something delicious. These are recipes that make everyday cooking exciting, whether you’re feeding the family, baking something special or simply looking for inspiration with ingredients you already have. No complicated techniques or unnecessary fuss, just easy, affordable and delicious food that proves home cooking can be achievable for everyone.
In a world that seems to get busier and more complicated, I believe cooking helps to ground us. It gives us a way to care for ourselves and nurture the people we love, and that should be possible for everyone, whatever their budget, experience or circumstances.
Good food doesn’t need to be expensive or time-consuming. That’s what The World’s Easiest Recipes is all about.
I hope you love these cookbooks as much as I do.
Happy cooking!
