There is something very satisfying about making your own bread, and this recipe couldn't be easier! You'll not only impress yourself but also your family and friends, and your kitchen is going to smell like a bakery! Enjoy it fresh and warm, or toasted with a spread of butter. Add your favourite savoury toppings or serve alongside a bowl of soup. Feel free to add cooked chopped onion or bacon or even extras like ham and chopped fresh herbs.

Ingredients:
2 tsp dry yeast
1 tsp white sugar
3 cups (450g) plain flour
30g packet dried French onion soup mix
1 cup (120g) tasty cheese
Method:
Grease a loaf pan and line with baking paper.
Pour 11/2 cups (375ml) lukewarm water into a large bowl. Add the yeast and sugar and stir to dissolve. Leave to activate for about 10 minutes (small bubbles should form).
Add the remaining ingredients and stir until a dough forms. Tip into the prepared pan, cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm, draught-free place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C.
Bake the loaf for 25 minutes or until the top makes a hollow sound when tapped.
Eat fresh from the oven or keep in the fridge for 2-3 days. It can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
Serves: 8
Prep Time: 5 minutes (plus 70 minutes for activating and rising)
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
