OVEN-BAKED MEATBALLS AND TOMATO SAUCE


Put a smile on the faces of your loved ones by serving up this midweek classic for dinner. This delicious, satisfying dish is so easy, as the meatballs and sauce are baked together in the oven. Serve with spaghetti.

Ingredients: -Meatballs- 500g (1lb) beef mince 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 onion, finely chopped 1⁄2 cup dry breadcrumbs 2 tbsp tomato sauce 1⁄2 tsp each salt and pepper

-Sauce- 2 x 400g (14oz) tins chopped tomatoes 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 1 tsp dried thyme or oregano 1 tbsp brown sugar salt and pepper to taste


Method: • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 20x30 cm (8x11 inch) ovenproof dish.

• Place the meatball ingredients into a large bowl and mix until well combined. • Shape the mixture into sixteen golf ball-size meatballs and set aside. • Place the sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix. • Pour the mixture into the base of the prepared dish. • Place the meatballs on top of the sauce. • Bake for 40 minutes, turning the meatballs halfway through baking.

Serves: 4 Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 40 minutes
